German metallurgical company that built motorcycles and parts of aviation engines in 1933.

-But it all starts much earlier, in 1911, when Gustav Otto, son of the inventor of the Otto cycle for internal combustion engines, founded the "Gustav Otto-Flugmaschinen-Werke. "

-This factory is integrated on March 7, 1916 - in full WWI - with Rapp (see) to form what was to be the basis for the new BMW brand.

-But at the beginning it was still called "Bayerische Flugzeugwerke" (Bfw). And very soon it became the definitive BMW "Bayerische Motoren Werke".

-For these circumstances Gustav's Otto engine is assigned as Flottweg at times.

-In fact, it is the Otto engine that was made at the beginning of the career of Gustav's company.

-In the 21st century, after dedicating itself to the manufacture of machinery during the previous decades, it has become part of Krauss-Maffei, its majority shareholder.
