After the activity with turbojet engines there seems to be no more aeronautical activity until the time when Europe starts to conquer Space through the European Space Agency (EAS).
“Ariane 4”
-Daimler Benz entered the Ariane 4 and Ariane 5 programs, under contract of SEP, which is responsible for the cryogenic system. Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG (DASA) develops and manufactures the Vulcain engine thrust chamber (from the Ariane 5).

“Chamber head”
-We see the combustion chamber head, without the expansion nozzle. It is the heart of the engine that has to withstand mixing and combustion with extremely hot gases that generate up to 100 tons of thrust, due to high-energy propellants such as Liquid Oxygen (LOX) and Liquid Hydrogen (LH2).
“Astrius” (PiP)
-This Astrius engine has been seen at the Munich Museum, as well as the Aestus, the second stage engine on the Ariane 5. Later this engine was replaced by the HM-7.
“Aestus” (PiP)
-The Aestus as it left the factory. The engine weighs 111 Kg and gives a maximum thrust of 27'3 Kn at 10 bar pressure in the chamber.
-The promoter of this engine is the Astrium group, the main contractor of the project.
“Aestus on Ariane 5”
-The Aestus is shown as it is installed in the second stage of the Ariane 5. This engine no longer consumes cryogenic propellants but MMH (Mono-Methyl-Hydrazine) and N2O4.
