Between 1900 and 1903, Clement Ader, who already made flight tests in 1897 with a steam engine (See Ader, Clement), made a new gasoline car engine in 1901, with two cylinders in V and 9 CV.

-In 1902 he built a V-4, 16 CV engine for airships. It is said that it was the first builder of Vee-engines.
-This Clement Ader engine was used in the Comte de Vaulx's airship. It was a four-cylinder V-engine.
