When dispersing British factories for being afraid of the German bombing in the Second World War, in 1943, a British mission was able to establish "Turbo Research Ltd." in Toronto. In 1945, "Turbo Research Ltd." also acquired "Victory Aircraft Ltd" in Ontario, and it became  "A.V. Roe" in 1946.

-The first product was the “Chinook” turbojet that delivered 2590 lbs. of thrust.

-Afterwards Avro-Canada became Armstrong Siddeley Canada.

-And later, just as in the UK, it was called “Hawker Siddeley Canada”.

-The “Chinook” was the first turbojet engine that was built in Canada and it gave rise to another larger and more powerful engine, the “Orenda”.

-They were produced in order to equip the RCAF, and were mounted on the Avro CF-100 and Canadair Sabres.

-The “Orenda” run for the first time in February 1949 and in October 1950 it powered the Canadian Sabre.

-Note the -9 series with two small poles on the engine's nose cone, through which alcohol was injected for increased power.

-There was also a grid to prevent the entry of foreign objects, the FOD's (Foreign Object Damage), the grids could be retracted during flight.
