This manufacturer of industrial turbines was invited by the US Navy to investigate gas turbines in 1941, although they made little progress.

In 1943 they received a Navy contract to manufacture under license the English DeHavilland "Goblin" engine. In the USA it got the name J-36 and was intended for the Lockheed XF-80, Grumman XTB3F-1 and Curtiss XF-15C-1.

-There was such a delay that the GEL-40 (J-33) had to replace it, although manufactured by Allison.

-In fact Allis-Chalmers only delivered seven "Goblin" engines with the internal manufacturer's designation H-1 (H-1B).

-Information on these engines can be found in the US National Archive Ref. 3022-452.8 and in 452.8 Britiish Secret H-1 b-MX-172, from 1943 to 1945.
