This company built engines and modificated a Ford four-cylinder engine. (Year 1939).

-The Funk Brothers Joe and Howard designed and built an airplane and its engine, modifying a Ford Model B engine. The ATC (Amended Type Certificate) number 715 was assigned to it.

-This aircraft took part in the 1937 Miami races with excellent results, which encouraged investors to found the Akron Aircraft Co. in 1938.

-The first Akron Funk engine of their own design was the Funk "E" that gave 63 hp at 2125 rpm up to 70 hp on takeoff at 2450 rpm.

-It had four inline inverted cylinders and was water-cooled.  It had L-shape combustion chambers and displaced 200 cu in. There were lubrication and cooling problems.
