This engine was used by the Wright brothers in the first flight of their "Flyer" in 1903.

-Sometimes known as the Pope-Toledo, it was an engine built by the automobile factory of the same name in those years.

-On the occasion of the Centennial of the flight in 2003, it was often said that John Taylor, an expert mechanic at the Wright brothers' bicycle workshop, built it from scratch.

-This observation, widely reported on the occasion of the commemoration, contradicts what has been known throughout the century as a significant adaptation of the engine by Taylor.
