George F. Smith of New Britain, CT designed and built an engine in 1910.

-The engine shown is considered a survivor. The “spiked” cylinders are from a modified Corbin automobile engine. The crankshaft was taken from a Franklin car engine.

-The aluminum crankcase and connecting rods were of his own design. It was installed on a monoplane aircraft of his own design as well in 1911.

-It gave 18 HP at 1,200 rpm displacing 112 lb.
