In 1925, Charles Wegscheider et DéCernay presented a prototype engine in Chalais-Meudon. This four-cylinder in-line engine drove two crankshafts simultaneously, for a total of 16 cylinders.

“Wegscheider et DéCernay Concept”
- The concept of four pistons simultaneously driving two crankshafts is interesting, as seen in the previous illustration and the following photograph, which allows us to appreciate the internal moving parts.

“Wegscheider Connecting System”
- The prototype failed due to an intermediate gear that dislocated the connecting rod system.
- The range included piston groups capable of producing up to 1000 hp.
Nothing more was heard of this group of engines, although a small proposal for this type of engine remained: the horizontally opposed cylinder engine with two crankshafts and a reduction gear.
